Dear Friend,
My name is Susan, and like you, I have walked through experiences that shaped me deeply. Some were beautiful. Many were heartbreaking. And through them all, I have learned this: life itself is the greatest classroom.
In my working years, I met families facing epilepsy, brain injuries, hidden disabilities, addiction, and trauma. Too often I saw them silenced by professionals who relied on degrees and titles but failed to listen with empathy. I saw a system that honored wealth, power, and position more than compassion, wisdom, or love. And I knew there had to be a better way.
Through my personal journey out of codependency and religious striving, I came to know Jesus not as a distant figure, but as the One who heals, restores, and sets people free. My two books, My Journey to Freedom [Book One] and [Book Two], tell that story. See the “About Susan” tab for more details.
And the courses He has helped me create - Speak God, I’m Ready to Listen and Let’s Write Your Testimony - flow from the same desire: to help people hear His voice, know His love, and step into freedom.
That is why Detox with Jesus exists.
It is not about religion. It is about relationship. It is not about experts speaking down to you. It is about recognizing that you are the expert of your own life. It is about creating a safe space where individuals, families, and professionals alike can be reminded of what truly matters: compassion, dignity, humility, and the kind of love that heals broken places.
The Bible tells us that in the end, we will not be measured by status or credentials, but by how we loved: “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink… whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:35–40).
This is the foundation of Detox with Jesus. Here you will find hope, not judgment. Compassion, not condemnation. Not a demand to change first, but an invitation to be loved as you are, where you are, while God begins His healing work in you.
What follows are three letters - one to the individual who is struggling with any type of addiction, one to the family who is also suffering, and one to the professional who is called to serve. Each is written from my heart, as a witness of what I have seen, heard, and lived.
My prayer is that through these words, you will catch a glimpse of the God who sees you, knows you, and loves you beyond measure.
With love and humility,
Susan Hopkins
