Our Foundation

Detox with Jesus is not built on personality, gifting, or human authority. It is built on a biblical order of headship, humility, and shared responsibility.

Jesus Christ Is the Head of the Church

“And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body…” (Ephesians 1:22–23)

“He is the head of the body, the church… that in all things He may have the pre-eminence.” (Colossians 1:18)

Jesus alone holds ultimate authority. All structure, leadership, and decision-making exist to remain submitted to Him.

The Holy Spirit Is Our Teacher, Guide, and Protector

“…The anointing which you have received from Him abides in you… His anointing teaches you concerning all things…” (1 John 2:27 AMP)

We believe the Holy Spirit guards truth, exposes error, convicts hearts, and keeps the body anchored in Christ. All leaders and members are expected to remain teachable, prayerful, and rooted in Scripture.

The Body of Christ Walks in Mutual Submission

“Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Ephesians 5:21)

“Clothe yourselves… with humility toward one another.” (1 Peter 5:5)

“Through love serve one another.” (Galatians 5:13)

Detox with Jesus rejects hierarchy based on power. We embrace a culture of humility, accountability, and love, where no one stands above correction and no voice is dismissed.

Organizational Structure

Detox with Jesus functions under the following order of responsibility:

1. Jesus Christ — Head of the Church

Supreme authority, source of life, truth, correction, and direction.

2. The Holy Spirit — Guide and Teacher

Leading the body into truth, unity, repentance, wisdom, and discernment.

3. Owner & Steward of the Ministry

Susan Hopkins — Founder, Owner, and Operator

Susan carries legal ownership and operational responsibility for the Detox with Jesus website and its privacy, safety, and foundational direction. She serves under Christ, accountable to Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and the Oversight Committee.

4. Oversight Committee (Seven Members)

The Oversight Committee exists to safeguard spiritual integrity, doctrinal soundness, ethical practice, and public accountability.

This committee:

  • Receives and reviews public concerns, complaints, or doctrinal questions
  • Reviews policies, leadership conduct, and ministry practices
  • Helps resolve internal conflicts
  • Oversees doctrinal clarity and ethical standards
  • Protects against spiritual abuse, manipulation, or misuse of authority
  • Serves as a spiritual covering, not a governing elite

The committee does not function as rulers, but as servant-guardians of the ministry.

5. Section Leaders & Assistant Leaders

Leaders steward specific areas of the website or ministry (prayer, stories, teaching resources, community care, etc.).

They are responsible for:

  • Faithful care of their assigned area
  • Christlike conduct and communication
  • Alignment with Detox with Jesus values and doctrine
  • Submitting concerns upward when needed
  • Serving the community, not controlling it

They remain accountable to the Oversight Committee and to one another.

6. General Membership

Those who serve, contribute, pray, support, and help build Detox with Jesus through participation and voluntary service.

Members are encouraged to:

  • Walk in love, humility, and honesty
  • Speak up when concerns arise
  • Pray for the ministry and its leaders
  • Serve according to grace, not pressure

7. Website Users and the Public

All visitors are welcomed, valued, and protected. Every concern, question, or report is taken seriously and reviewed through the established accountability process.

How Decisions, Concerns, and Policies Are Handled

“Group Consciousness” Model

Detox with Jesus adopts a prayerful, consensus-based approach modeled after the early church and the process observed within CODA (Codependents Anonymous).

When a policy, concern, or issue is brought forward:

  • The matter is presented clearly to the Oversight Committee
  • The group enters prayer, Scripture reflection, and open discussion
  • Each member is invited to speak in turn
  • Proposed wording or direction is revised based on what is heard
  • The process repeats as needed, allowing space for silence and prayer

The goal is not majority rule, but unity of conscience under God.

When unanimous peace and agreement is reached, the decision is accepted.

“It seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us…” (Acts 15:28)

Selection of Leaders and Oversight Members

At Detox with Jesus, character comes before gifting.

“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
“By their fruit you will recognize them.” (Matthew 7:16)
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22–23)
