Assessment – Discovering Your Readiness & Gifts

Self-reflection tools and questions to help you understand your strengths, needs, and calling.

PERSONAL ASSESSMENT

Discovering Your Readiness, Your Gifts, and Your Place in God’s Army

Before stepping into ministry or leadership, it helps to pause and look at where you are right now. This is not a test. It is not about being “qualified” or “good enough.” It is simply a gentle way to notice the strengths God has already given you and the areas where He is helping you grow. Every soldier in God’s Army has a unique assignment. Every believer carries something different. And God prepares each of us in different ways. This personal assessment will help you listen to your heart, notice how God has shaped you, and understand where you may be ready to serve.

Your Walk With God - How are you growing spiritually?

1. Your Walk With God - How are you growing spiritually?

These questions are for self-reflection only:

  • Do I spend time with God in prayer, even in simple ways?
  • Do I try to listen for His voice?
  • Do I read or reflect on Scripture regularly?
  • Am I growing in trust, even if slowly?
  • Do I sense God inviting me deeper?

You don’t need perfect answers.

You only need a willing heart.

Your Heart for People - How does compassion show up in your life?

Ask yourself:
  • When I hear someone is hurting, do I feel drawn to pray or reach out?
  • Do I find myself wanting to encourage others?
  • Have my own life experiences given me empathy for people in pain?
  • Do I notice when someone feels alone or overwhelmed?
Often, our calling is connected to the places where our heart moves first.

Your Gifts & Natural Strengths - What comes naturally to you?

Use these gentle prompts to discover where God has gifted you:

  • I enjoy listening and offering support.
  • I love praying for others.
  • I enjoy creative work (music, art, design, writing).
  • I like planning, organizing, or helping behind the scenes.
  • I enjoy teaching, sharing, or explaining things.
  • I feel protective of people who are vulnerable.
  • I notice little details others miss.
  • I love hospitality and making people feel welcome.
  • I enjoy technology, media, or communication.
  • I am comfortable leading or mentoring when needed.
  • I am not sure yet, but I want to learn.

These natural strengths often match the Opportunities for Ministry listed in the Deployment tab.

Your Life Experience - Your story is part of your calling.

Think about the things you have walked through:

  • Have you faced pain, addiction, loss, rejection, or shame?
  • Has God healed, restored, or strengthened you in certain areas?
  • Have you overcome things others are still struggling with?
  • Do you feel compassion for people going through what you once faced?

These experiences are not accidents.

They are tools God can use to help someone else.

Your Readiness to Serve - Are you open to taking a next step?

Ask yourself:

  • Am I ready to serve in a small role, even if I feel nervous?
  • Am I open to learning and being guided?
  • Can I work in unity with others?
  • Do I sense God preparing me for something more?
  • Am I willing to pray, listen, and follow His direction?

This is about willingness—not perfection.

How Your Assessment Connects to Ministry Opportunities

Once you have reflected on your:

  • walk with God
  • heart for people
  • natural strengths
  • life experiences
  • readiness to serve

…you can look at the Ministry Opportunities and ask:

Where do my gifts and my heart line up?

Where do I feel the most peace or excitement?

Where do I feel God nudging me?

Remember: There are many places to serve, and your calling may grow over time.

A Simple Next Step

If you sense God calling you or preparing you to become more involved in a specific part of Detox with Jesus or Many Hands Make Light Work, we invite you to share your heart with us.

You can:
  • Use the general inquiries form on the CONTACT US page, or
  • Go directly to the contact form for the area of ministry that interests you (for example, if you feel drawn to serve under OUR STORIES or MEETINGS, you may contact that team directly).
  • You can go to the DEPLOYMENT tab below and review OPPORTUNITIES FOR MINISTRY and complete the MINISTRY INTEREST – QUICK CONTACT FORM

Which ever method you choose, someone will respond personally. We will walk with you, pray with you, and help you find your place at a pace that feels safe and comfortable.

If you feel drawn to lead a ministry area, you will be encouraged to select an assistant. Jesus sent His disciples out two by two for a reason - so we follow that same principle. Working with a trusted partner helps ensure:
  • emotional support
  • shared responsibility
  • confidentiality
  • healthy boundaries
  • and spiritual protection

You will each be given your own ministry email address to maintain privacy and clarity of communication. For example:

  • meetings@detoxwithjesus.ca
  • meetingsassist@detoxwithjesus.ca

ease remember: You are never doing this alone.

If you feel nervous stepping into a role, your assistant can be someone who is confident and experienced - someone willing to encourage you, guide you, and nurture you as you grow into the ministry God is awakening in you.

Our hope is that you feel you are joining:

  • a family,
  • a movement,
  • and God’s end-time army

prepared in love, moving in unity, and led by the Holy Spirit.
