Detox With Jesus: Healing in His Presence
In Him we live - He is the breath in our lungs and the love that sustains us.

DETOX WITH JESUS Mission and Brief Summary

Our Mission
Detox with Jesus believes that true recovery happens when families heal together. Just as addiction affects everyone, restoration must include everyone. Through prayer, community, and the love of Christ, we walk with individuals and families from brokenness to wholeness - where love restores and freedom begins.

Our Governance & Accountability

Detox with Jesus is built on a Christ-centered foundation of humility, accountability, and mutual submission.

Jesus Christ alone is the Head of this ministry. We believe the Holy Spirit leads, teaches, and guards the body of Christ. All who serve here are called to walk in humility, love, and submission to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21).

Detox with Jesus is owned and stewarded by Susan Hopkins. She carries responsibility for the operation of the website and its legal and privacy obligations.

To safeguard spiritual integrity, doctrinal clarity, and ethical practice, Detox with Jesus is supported by an independent Oversight Committee of seven members. This committee prayerfully reviews concerns, complaints, and questions raised by the public or the community, and helps guide the ministry in matters of policy, conduct, and doctrine.

All leaders and assistants serving within Detox with Jesus are accountable to this oversight structure and are chosen first for character, spiritual fruit, and humility before gifting.

Decisions and concerns are addressed through a prayerful, consensus-based process that seeks unity under the Holy Spirit rather than majority rule.

We welcome questions, correction, and accountability, trusting Jesus to protect and mature His body.

What is Detox with Jesus?

Detox with Jesus is a Christ-centered recovery pathway for people struggling with addictions, codependency, and life-controlling issues - and for the families and friends impacted by them.

It is not about religion, rules, or trying harder. It is about following a Person - Jesus Christ - who transforms us from the inside out.

The Heart and the Hands

At its core, Detox with Jesus is not a program but a journey with Christ. Addiction is not the problem but a symptom of deeper wounds, and the addict is not the enemy.

The true enemy is the darkness that feeds on family pain and unresolved trauma. Our mission is to point hurting people to the unconditional love of the Father, the healing way of Jesus, and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

But healing is not only spiritual - it is also practical. Families need support in their everyday struggles. That is why Detox with Jesus rests on two pillars:

  • The Heart: Detox  with Jesus - a gentle cleanse of soul and spirit,  restoring families  through faith, forgiveness, and love.
  • The Hands: Many  Hands Make  Light  Work - practical  help from the community,  where volunteers and neighbors come  alongside families with  encouragement, meals,  childcare,  advocacy, and presence.

If  you  feel stirred to  be  part  of the “helping  hands” that lighten the  load for  struggling  families, you’ll  discover more in the section called Many Hands Make Light Work.

What Detox with Jesus Is (and isn’t)

Detox with Jesus is not professional treatment, and it does not replace therapy, medical care, or counseling. It is a starting point - a safe, supportive place to begin healing with Christ at the center. Here you will find encouragement, prayer, and practical tools to help you:
  • Let go and let God.
  • Draw strength and comfort from Jesus.
  • Build circles of support in your home, community, or region.
  • Understand codependency and family patterns.
  • Recognize that addiction is not the root problem but a symptom of pain.
  • Use Starter Kits as practical guides for addicts, parents, spouses, siblings, grandparents, and friends.
  • Share your story so others can learn from your struggles and victories.

We know that recovery often requires professional support. Detox with Jesus is meant to complement, not replace that care. Just as Susan once worked as an outreach worker -walking beside families, advocating, and offering comfort - this ministry will help you find strength in Christ while encouraging you to reach out for the professional help you may also need.

This is Not About Religion, But Relationship

For some, the word Jesus brings comfort. For others, it brings memories of disappointment, hypocrisy, or church experiences that left wounds instead of healing.

We want you to know:
Detox with Jesus is not about church. It is not about religion. It is not about following rules, performing, or pretending to be “good enough.”

Many people were raised in churches that told them what to do and not do but never showed them how to live free in Christ. They tried harder and harder, only to fail. That kind of striving becomes its own addiction - just like alcohol, gambling, or workaholism. And it leaves people exhausted and burned out.

But Jesus never invited us into religion. He invited us into rest:

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with
me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28–30, The Message Bible)

That’s what Detox with Jesus is all about.
• It’s not about rules - it’s about relationship.
• It’s not about trying harder - it’s about trusting Him more.
• It’s not about going to church - it’s about becoming the Church, His beloved sons and daughters. • It’s not about covering up your brokenness - it’s about letting Him transform it.

Here you will not be judged. Here you don’t have to pretend. Here you can lay down your burdens, your cravings, your failures, and your shame - and discover that Jesus has already done the work to set you free.

Detox with Jesus is not about escaping life. It is about recovering real life - the abundant life Jesus promised.

The Centrality of Jesus in “Detox with Jesus”

Detox with Jesus isn’t simply “Christian AA” or “Celebrate Recovery in new words.” It’s not another twelve step program. It’s anchored in the fullness of the gospel: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working together to heal identity and restore love.

At the core of Detox with Jesus is not a program, but a Person. Jesus is the focus of our detox because He is the only way back to the love of the Father. The Bible tells us that when Adam and Eve sinned, our relationship with our Heavenly Father was severed. Out of love, God sent His Son to earth as one of us - fully human and fully God. Jesus faced every temptation we face yet remained without sin. He is the exact representation of the Father, showing us in visible form the heart of the invisible God.

Scripture is clear: there is no way to the Father except through Jesus. He alone introduces us to the One who is the true Source of unconditional love. In Him, we become sons and daughters of God, coheirs with Christ - our Brother, our Bridegroom, our Friend.

But Jesus’ work does not stop there. He fills us with the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to:
• Break free from the cravings and chains of addiction.
• Live as witnesses to the good news of His completed work.
• Walk in freedom, wholeness, and purpose as God’s children.
• Anticipate His return and reign as King in the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

This is the difference between behaviour change and true transformation. For years, many have known about Jesus - but real freedom comes when we know the Father through Him and are filled with the Holy Spirit. This is the complete message of unconditional love that satisfies every unmet need and longing we have carried from childhood.

Jesus Himself promised:
• “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35 NKJV)
• “Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:13-14 NKJV)

Every addiction is, at its core, an attempt to fill hunger and thirst with broken cisterns - things that never satisfy and always leave us craving more. But in Christ, we find the love and fullness that ends the cycle. We no longer look for love in the wrong places, because the Living Water and the Bread of Life are enough.

This is why Detox with Jesus is not just about stopping behaviors, but about encountering the Father’s love through Jesus, walking in the Spirit’s power, and being restored into the family of God.

This is for all people, any type of addiction

A Gentle Truth

You don’t have to change yourself before coming to Jesus. Simply come as you are. As His love works in your heart, the cravings and the chains lose their power. Healing begins from the inside out.

Learn Why Family Involvement Matters

Research in family therapy and addiction recovery consistently shows that healing is incomplete when the focus is only on the addict.
• According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), family-based approaches to treatment have significantly higher rates of long-term recovery than individual approaches alone.
• Studies published in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy demonstrate that when families engage in therapy alongside the addicted individual, relapse rates are reduced and family functioning improves.
• Programs such as Al-Anon and Family Systems Therapy emerged from the recognition that patterns of enabling, control, silence, shame, or conflict all contribute to the cycle of addiction. Without change in the family, relapse is often inevitable.

The Example of Anorexia

For example, when a 12-year-old girl develops anorexia, the issue is not only “not eating.” Starvation becomes a desperate attempt to maintain control in a world where she feels powerless.

Recovery, as family therapists emphasize, cannot happen by simply forcing food into her. Instead, the family must look closely at how unspoken rules, pressures, or relational patterns contribute.

Healing begins when the family lets go of unnecessary controls (such as curfews or rigid household rules) and creates space for trust, respect, and true belonging.

A Christ-Centered Approach

This same principle applies to Detox with Jesus. True healing does not come from forcing someone to stop drinking, eating, or working excessively. Those behaviours are symptoms. Recovery comes when the person and their family together begin to address the root issues of love, belonging, identity, and trust.

At the centre of Detox with Jesus is the Serenity Prayer:

“God, grant me the serenity, to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.”

This prayer is not only for the person struggling with addiction - it is for their parents, their children, their partners, their friends, and their church communities. Each person must evaluate:
• What controls or expectations am I holding onto that I need to release?
• What responsibilities or unhealthy patterns can I change? • Where do I need wisdom to know the difference?

Healing begins when the whole family learns that it is not about “trying harder” but about “trusting more.”

Jesus alone is the way, the truth, and the life enabling us to restore a broken relationship with the source of unconditional love, our heavenly Father, and the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives transforming hearts, renewing minds, and restoring relationships.

The Goal of Detox with Jesus

The goal is not only individual sobriety or behavior change, but family and community restoration. When one person finds freedom, but their environment remains unchanged, relapse is highly likely. But when family, friends, and loved ones participate in the journey of healing, hope is multiplied, love is restored, and entire households experience transformation.
